Where the Crawdads Sing

This novel might honestly be one of my favorite books ever. It was so beautifully written. It’s a story about a lonely girl’s coming-of-age in the marshes of North Carolina. At first, I thought it would be a basic coming-of-age story, but no! There was love and MURDER. I was hooked from the beginning. At times, it was hard to read. Her family completely abandons her, leaves her to survive on her own, and then she’s charged with murdering a man. It seems like she just can’t catch a break. Throughout the novel, you see the main character, Kya, learn to get creative and sell mussels to buy food.

There’s twists and turns and love and heartbreak and every emotion you can possibly feel. Owens did an amazing job of crafting a beautiful story that all will enjoy.
