Vienna, Austria

My time in Vienna was very short, and there was a lot of stuff I wanted to see but didn’t. Oh well, I guess that means I’ll just have to go back! My friends and I arrived in Vienna around 11 AM and went straight into town to get some lunch which ended up being chicken cordon bleu. We had bought tickets for the Magic Flute for Kids, thinking it would be professionals performing a toned down version of Mozart’s Opera, but no. It was a school play put on by children and I was very confused by the plot because it wasn’t what expected or had read the Magic Flute to be about. It was a very bizarre yet entertaining show.

We headed to Mozart’s house to take a tour and see where the great composer lived. It was a small apartment (although it was considered large at the time). The audio tour was just okay. It would have been better if I had read more beforehand. It was very cool to see some of his handwritten notes and compositions.

In continuation of the classical music theme, we attended a string quartet concert at St. Peter’s Catholic Church where they played Mozart, Haydn, Dvorak, and more. The musicians were phenomenal, and it was amazing to sit in a room where you likely didn’t speak the same language as the person next to you yet we all understand the language of music!

To end the day, we had dessert at Cafe Central, one of Vienna’s most famous cafes. I got an apple strudel (the one in Switzerland was better). There are so many things left in Vienna for me to see, so hopefully I get to go back soon.
