Milan, Italy
This past Friday, my friends and I took a whirlwind trip to Milan, Italy. We left Metz and headed to the airport in Luxembourg to catch a 9 AM flight to Milan. A one hour flight and another one hour bus ride later, we finally made it to the city. We checked into our Airbnb then headed out for lunch!
I got pizza for lunch, of course, at Gino Sorbillo. The pizza was so amazing. The dough tasted so fresh, and I was so hungry I ate the entire thing by myself! After lunch, we headed straight to the Duomo di Milano, which is the fifth largest Christian church in the world. Seriously, it was massive.
We did an audio tour of the Duomo and my favorite part of the tour was hearing that in the cathedral was one of the nails from Jesus’s cross. If you look at the pictures of the altar and look about 50m up the wall, you can see a red light. That is where the nail is housed. Every year on the Saturday closest to September 14th, the bishop of Milan is hoisted up to retrieve the nail. It is displayed for a short time after that. The Duomo was one of the most impressive cathedrals I have ever seen!
After touring the Duomo, we went shopping for a bit, and I got a milkshake from Five Guys. I know, not very Italian but the gelato place didn’t have any flavors I liked 😦
We went to dinner at a restaurant recommended by our Airbnb host called Noblesse Oblige. It was So good. I ordered shrimp scampi and it was the best pasta I have ever had. All the ingredients tasted so fresh. I want to go back just thinking about it. I closed out dinner with some berries and cream and that was also amazing. The restaurant was run by a mother-son duo, and when my friend asked for a recommendation, our waiter suggested the tortellini because his mom makes it! How cute.
We got up the next day at 3 AM and were back in Metz shortly after! Overall a quick trip but a fun one. I didn’t get to see The Last Supper so I guess that means I just have to go back for that and some more of that shrimp scampi!
