May Garden Update

DIY

My garden is THRIVING! It’s been so fun checking on it everyday to see if there are any new blooms and wondering if the growth would be leaves or a vegetable!

I do admit that I might have too much in there… We’ll see how this season goes but I am definitely downsizing next time.

Zucchini

It took a while, but those floppy little zucchini plants are really doing well! I spotted by first little zucchini a few days ago. I think it’s really interesting how they grow. The bottom of the flower is the zucchini, and the flower is allegedly edible according to my Pawpaw. I’m not sure I will be the one to eat that…

There seem to be a few more bud-like things on the plant. Hopefully they are actually little zucchini!

Cherry Tomatoes

These plants are growing so fast. I can hardly keep up. I got some tomato cages to help support them when they get tall, but the plant has grown almost a foot over the cage so I need to get some taller ones. They grow up so fast :’(

I’ve had blooms on these two cherry tomato plants for a while, but I feel like they stay green for so long! The most mature tomato I have has been the same size for a while. I don’t see it changing colors yet. I just need to be patient!

Cucumber

This photo isn’t the best, but I think that yellow thing is going to be a cucumber? I need to do more research… It’s growing super fast and the vines are starting to latch on to the trellis.

Bell Peppers

Look at the cute little bell peppers! When these first showed up, I thought that the little bud was the bell pepper. But it’s actually a flower! The flower opened up and then a few days later I found the petals on the ground! Well I looked at the place where the flower was and BEHOLD! a little bell pepper. I have tons of little buds on my plant so lots of bell peppers to come.

Sweet Potatoes

So I kind of feel bad for my sweet potatoes. They aren’t very pretty and they don’t do much above ground. I’m assuming something is happening under the soil? I hope to be pleasantly surprised when it’s time to harvest them.

Conclusion

The garden is doing well overall. I’ve used lots of rosemary in meals and I’m going to make a little shower thing with the lavender. You can put in a cute bag and tie it around the shower head. It’ll release a lovely lavender scent when you take a shower!

In you have any tips, please put them in the comments or email me! I’m new at this and am accepting any and all gardening tips and tricks.
