Metz, France: Part I

This past Sunday, I took a guided tour of Metz, France! I started off the morning with mass at Cathedrale Saint-Etienne. The cathedral was not heated well so it was about 40 degrees inside! The guide met us right outside the cathedral and pointed out many of the carvings in the doorway and explained their meanings. She took us inside and pointed out various stained glass windows that had been done by various artists. After the cathedral, we went to the Museum of La Cour d’Or to learn about the origins of Metz.

The museum included Roman treasures, mediaeval painted ceilings, and fine art collections. We then walked around the city to the central train station which was just voted the most beautiful train station in France! We looked at the art on the side of the building then ducked through to the Centre Pompidou – Metz, which is a center for modern and contemporary art. I didn’t go in this visit but am planning to go back soon to see the Paint the Night exhibit. Check out the video below for more!
