Animal Farm
by George Orwell
What a wild story… It’s a super short read but so much is packed in to ninety-something pages. The book is set in a future in which animals are much cleverer than humans, and the animals use their cleverness to start a revolution against the humans.
The animals set out to create a paradise of fairness and progress; however this plan quickly goes awry. The pigs take over and the animals start to question what they have created.
It was so clear for me to see the allusions to leaders like Stalin or Marx. Animal Farm is an illustration of humankind at its best and at its worst. One line that really stuck with me was, “The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.“
